Living in Lake Country
Lake Country sits between Kelowna and Vernon, wrapped around three lakes — Wood, Kalamalka and the northern end of Okanagan. It is really a collection of communities rather than one neighbourhood: Winfield with the shops and schools, Oyama on the isthmus between Wood and Kalamalka lakes, Carr's Landing on the Okanagan Lake shore, and Okanagan Centre below it.
The setting is the reason people move here. Orchards and vineyards still cover much of the hillside, the Okanagan Rail Trail runs along the Wood Lake shoreline, and Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park is minutes away. It feels rural and unhurried, yet Kelowna International Airport and the UBC Okanagan campus are both about 10 minutes south.
Growth has been steady over the past decade, with new subdivisions in the Lakes and Copper Hill areas and a small but growing town centre. It still has a distinctly small-town feel compared with anywhere inside Kelowna.
