Living in Kelowna North
Kelowna North is the downtown core and the streets immediately around it — the Cultural District, the waterfront at Tugboat Beach and Waterfront Park, Bernard Avenue, and the older residential blocks that run north toward Knox Mountain. It is the most walkable part of the city by a wide margin. Groceries, restaurants, breweries, the Rotary Centre for the Arts, Prospera Place and the lake are all reachable on foot from most addresses.
The character changes block by block. Along the water and around the marina it is newer towers and mid-rise buildings with lake and city views. A few streets inland you are into character homes from the 1920s through the 1950s, many of them renovated, on smaller lots with mature trees. Between the two sits the brewery district, which has turned former warehouse space into some of the busiest patios in the Okanagan.
Knox Mountain Park anchors the north end — 10 kilometres of trail and the best view of the city from Apex Lookout, five minutes from downtown.
