Living on Black Mountain
Black Mountain sits on the slopes above Rutland on Kelowna's east side, between the Rutland valley floor and the road up Highway 33. It is one of the newest parts of the city — most of what is here was built in the last twenty years, and construction is still going on in the upper subdivisions.
The appeal is easy to see the moment you drive up: because the neighbourhood is on a hillside, a large share of homes look out over the valley, and evening light across the orchards below is genuinely something. Homes are modern, streets are wide, and there are more young families and strollers here than in almost any other Kelowna neighbourhood.
It is also a golf-and-outdoors address. Black Mountain Golf Club is in the neighbourhood, Tower Ranch is nearby, and Highway 33 puts Big White about an hour away. Downtown Kelowna is usually 15 to 20 minutes, and the airport and UBC Okanagan are a similar run north.
